What Pre Does
5 min read
Pre is an accountability system that forces you to execute. It's the same kind of execution framework hundreds of YC companies have used to build incredibly successful startups: time-boxed sprints, ambitious goals, weekly checkpoints, and real human accountability.
The Core Loop
Every founder using Pre follows the same basic loop:
- Set a 10-week sprint with one ambitious North Star goal
- Define milestones as checkpoints every couple weeks
- Break it into weekly goals that move you toward your next milestone
- Execute and mark progress as done, partial, or not done
- Get held accountable by people who receive your weekly reports
- Reflect in your Weekly Retro on what worked and what didn't
Why It Works
Most productivity tools let you hide. You can reschedule, archive, or ignore things indefinitely. Pre doesn't.
- Your weekly goals have a deadline that doesn't move
- Your accountability partners see exactly what you did or didn't do
- Your progress (or lack of it) is visible across the whole sprint
The pressure isn't punishment. It's the forcing function that helps you do the work you already know matters.
Just Enough Process
Pre is like stripped-down OKRs. For early-stage startups, if you have to spend time and energy working your process, you're wasting time that could be spent generating results.
The last thing a founder wants to do is stop working to "report what they did and show their work." They want to keep their head down and keep moving. Pre solves this.
With Pre, your dashboard is your update. Investors and mentors set as accountability partners can see everything they need in the most transparent way possible. No more writing investor updates. No more summarizing what you did. Your work speaks for itself.
What Pre Includes
The Pre Agent
The Pre Agent is your most efficient way to interact with the system. Use it to add or update goals, complete your Weekly Retro, log progress, or just think through problems.
Because Pre knows your startup context, your sprint, your goals, and your metrics, the agent becomes a highly useful advisor. It can help you prioritize, challenge your thinking, and collaborate on getting work done.
When integrated with your other tools, the agent can also automate reporting entirely. Your work in Slack, Linear, GitHub, or wherever you operate becomes the source of truth.

Milestones
Intermediate checkpoints set every couple weeks. They're what you work backward from to plan your weekly goals, and they help you know if you're on pace.
Weekly Goals
Concrete objectives for each week. Not tasks, outcomes. Things you can definitively mark as done or not done. See Writing Great Weekly Goals.
Accountability Partners
Real people (investors, mentors, friends) who receive automatic weekly updates showing your actual progress. See Choosing Accountability Partners.
Weekly Reports
Automated emails sent to your accountability partners at the end of each week. No manual updates required. Your dashboard is your report.
Progress Visualization
See your entire sprint at a glance. Green weeks, red weeks, pending weeks. No hiding from the truth. See Using the Dashboard.
